Aeroplan Points for booking at AirCanada.com?

  • I recently made a flight booking online at the air canada website. It was my understanding that, as I booked a Tango class fare, I should receive 1 Aeroplan point for every $3 spent on the booking. So far my aeroplan points have showed up for the flight itself, but no sign of the points for the online booking. Do these points normally take a while to show up? If they don't show up, how does one go about requesting credit for them?

Many thanks to all the experts!

  • No, I have NEVER received these points ... I too think it is a scam. Last month I sent Aeroplan a letter providing them with the LOCATs for a whole series of bookings done on-line at aircanada.com, and asked them to credit the missing points. Nothing heard yet.

It never previously occurred to me to check - now that I have done so I find that in 2007 I charged $11,200 of AC flights to my aerogold card, and the only AP point bonuses that I received (coded as "plusair Canada promotion") totaled 715. I couldn't find any other credits that were not there. There was a debit of 1750 (presumably from some cancelled bookings, although the credits were never made) so I am left with negative 1000 miles for using my aeroplan card:mad:

I'm not a litigious guy but if there is wholesale abuse by AC/AP, wouldn't it be more appropriate to do more than a letter to Customer Solutions?

  • 1 for $3 points posted today for a Tango fare trip I took last week which had been booked in March on aircanada.com. I have always received these points without any trouble.

  • I think also people need to be aware that the points will post on the day you booked the flight, so they won't show on your summary statement, you need to look at all transactions to see it...

  • I think also people need to be aware that the points will post on the day you booked the flight, so they won't show on your summary statement, you need to look at all transactions to see it...

They've been appearing with the date of the last segment flown of the itinerary for me.

  • Has this bonus been around for a long time?

I don't think I've ever gotten a bonus for booking an INTL flight online. All I got when I flew leisure to the UK was the 3,500 bonus, but that was different I thought.

Check our post #32 above, and the link. Not all destinations get the bonus.

  • I got it for a return trip May 30 - June 4. Dated June 4, not sure when it posted.

  • One must use the talents one is given ! :)

  • Looks like there was a sweep today. I just got the online booking bonus miles posted for 2 round trip flights which were taken on Jan 24 and Feb 11.

Yup, looks like there was a sweep today. I got my Latitude Air Canada Promotion points for my flight on Feb 3 today as well.

  • Always nice to hear you complain :) In fact just about any post :) :D

  • Looks like there was a sweep today. Some points posted to my account for flights in early May.

Hey thanks for the tip MG ... Mrs. PB's rev flight points are there ... appreciate the heads up! :)

  • I've always received them, but they take 4-6 weeks after you complete your flight and they will have the same date as your return flight.

I guess that makes sense. A couple years ago, I recall that I received the bonus points quite promptly, but they were also promptly removed when I cancelled (not refunded) the booking. Presumably because I wouldn't be able to re-book online, and would have to bother their call centre...

  • These have always posted generally on the weekend after the AC flight as long as the flight itself has posted. This was my experience all last year and this year also since the 2nd week of Jan 2008.

The only time I have seen them post NOT on a weekend is towards the end of the month (within a few days of the end of the month).

Are you saying you have received your bonus miles every time within a couple of days of the flight posting... regardless of the time of the month?

I guess it was just coincidental that my AC and LH flights getting this bonus were all flown on Thursdays or Fridays, so did show a day or two later.

  • My points from mid-April posted today as well...

  • Another sweep last night for those who want to check their accounts.

  • Yes, I definitely got my points credited today also! Much quicker than the 4 to 6 weeks I was warned about, but perhaps I was just lucky in having my flight occur close to a date when they post all these points. But I'm really glad I didn't have to bother following up with Air Canada on these.

  • No, I have NEVER received these points ... I too think it is a scam. Last month I sent Aeroplan a letter providing them with the LOCATs for a whole series of bookings done on-line at aircanada.com, and asked them to credit the missing points. Nothing heard yet.

I usually have troubles as well - can only recall 2 occasions where they actually posted. Unless things have changed save yourself some time - AE will tell you they can't help and it's an AC problem as it is ac.com that hasn't posted them, not ae.com. Send an email off to AC Customer Solutions/Relations/whatever they're called these days. They're the ones that have resolved my unposted booking bonuses in the past, for those that I've been bothered to chase up on.

  • Check our post #32 above, and the link. Not all destinations get the bonus.

I think that this was a recent change, I am fairly certain that when I booked an Intl trip earlier this year there was still a mile/$ Latitude bonus. Anyway, my Latitude fare was about $3500 and I expected about 3500miles. I sent an email to AC and about 3 weeks later actually got a response informing me that indeed they had changed guidelines making the promo destination specific. Got a 750 miles bonus as well, not sure if that fully reflected the domestic portion though.

  • Appears AC has its act together this year. My first .com miles for flights in January posted late last month (albeit "hidden" on the last date of travel) and the last batch for flights at the end of January posted over night today. So there must be a sweep on the 21st of each month for this bonus. Those opting for flight bonuses (25%, 50% and 100%) have these posted within a day or two of the actual flights posting.

Also received a pair of SWUs earlier this week, indicating the threshold upgrades are going out regularly again. Last year there was a huge delay and backlog in the new year, so system must get swept for these at the beginning of each month, allowing for a 2-week processing/mailing period.

  • Has this bonus been around for a long time?

I don't think I've ever gotten a bonus for booking an INTL flight online. All I got when I flew leisure to the UK was the 3,500 bonus, but that was different I thought.

  • I've always received them, but they take 4-6 weeks after you complete your flight and they will have the same date as your return flight. So unless you go back in your statement, you might not notice that they posted.

    They will show up as:

    AIRCANADA.COM TANGO PLUSAIR CANADA PROMOTION
    or
    AIRCANADA.COM LATITUDEAIR CANADA PROMOTION

What does seem erratic is how they calculate it, but in most cases it seems to be based on the cost of your base fare plus Navcan and Surcharges, but does not include everything else that shows up under Taxes, Fees and Charges.

  • Looks like there was a sweep today. I just got the online booking bonus miles posted for 2 round trip flights which were taken on Jan 24 and Feb 11.

However, bonus miles for one way tickets from YUL-YYZ for Jan 30 and Feb 8 have not posted yet.

  • Well I'll be -- my points from a flight in April just posted.

Whatever pin head thought of this process needs a good smack on the behind with a marketing 101 textbook. The whole point of these kind of rewards is not that the reward is worth anything in real terms -- it's the instant gratification that influences people's behaviour.

If you don't see the reward until you've forgotten what decision led to the reward you're not going to bother next time. They're giving people too much time to do the math and realize they're being ripped off for $hundreds to earn a $5 kickback.

  • Another sweep last night for those who want to check if their miles posted.

  • That 21st-of-the-month sweep seems to have not happened this month. Still no credit for my ac.com ticket purchases in early January (mid-January flight) and late February (early-March flight) -- and no elite bonus for the last March flight (now eight days after the flight).

The glacial speed (and reliability) of posting miles to the AE accounts is really disappointing, and even more so when compared with other airlines' systems. Yes, Aeroplan is a separate company, but it's by AC's choice. Often taking a week to post flight credit, and a month-plus to post ac.com and E/SE bonuses would embarrass the heck out of me if I were running their IT systems. :(

  • Yes - these were all flights (mainly T+) booked through AC.com on my AG card. I would therefore have expected 1 mile /$3 spent. I only mentioned "AC promotion" because this was suggested as the right designation for them in a previous post, if you discount these then I received no bonus miles for my bookings.

To be frank, I don't care about 4000 lousy miles, its the principle that we are told we'll get them and they don't appear!

  • Thanks much to those who replied, I'll keep an eye out 4 to 6 weeks after the flight date and see if they show up!

  • It's not so much how many days after the flight, but when there is a sweep. Judging by some of my previous posts, there were sweeps on:

    Feb 21
    Apr 1
    May 22
    Jul 26
    Aug 14

Don't really see a pattern there.

  • Never have I received these points. I think it's a scam!

Agreed - well, I've received them maybe 20% of the time at best. What's the deal? I know you need to fly first, but do they just hope you'll forget about them if they make you wait long enough?

    Cheers,
    bawm

  • Has anyone received the online booking bonus recently? I haven't seen anything for a couple of months.

  • Looks like there was another sweep last night for bonus miles for booking online at aircanada.com.

  • I've always received the bonus points, but they post 4+ weeks after the flight.

  • Looks like there was a sweep today. Some points posted to my account for flights in early May.

  • Always nice to hear you complain :) In fact just about any post :) :D

 I suppose it is a bit special that I managed to turn a happy post about points finally posting into yet another rant

  • Another sweep last night for those who want to check their accounts.

How often are there " sweeps" in a month?

When do AC flight segments actually post after one takes the flight?

  • Looks like there was a sweep last night. Got the miles for flights in July. Some from May are missing. Time to write in.

  • Another sweep last night. Got the miles for a flight I took only last week (Oct 8). Really can't seem to find a pattern, other than maybe twice per month ...

Those opting for flight bonuses (25%, 50% and 100%) have these posted within a day or two of the actual flights posting.

  • Is this for domestic flights only or for all flights? My international flights booked on AC.com have not generated any points in the account. I only have one domestic flight this year and that was yesterday so not surprisingly nothing's been posted yet.

  • Never have I received these points. I think it's a scam!

  • My July 15th flight was posted last night. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones, whose bonus miles were quickly posted.

  • It never previously occurred to me to check - now that I have done so I find that in 2007 I charged $11,200 of AC flights to my aerogold card, and the only AP point bonuses that I received (coded as "plusair Canada promotion") totaled 715. Were all flights booked on aircanada.com? This promotion has nothing to do with your CIBC Aerogold card. If you book through a travel agent and charge to your Aerogold card, all you get is the normal 1 point per $1 spent from using your Visa. If you book on ac.com, you will get bonus booking miles.

    For domestic flights, you get:

Executive Class - 1 mile for every $1 spent
Latitude - 1 mile for every $1 spent
Tango Plus - 1 mile for every $2 spent
Tango - 1 mile for every $3 spent
