6 segments from PDX for cheap requalification?

  • Okay,I admit that I'm not too proud to take advantage of Alaska's offer for MVP Gold requalification if I fly six segments by December 31. The question is whether I can do them all in one day, or on an overnight, starting at PDX.

My first thought is simply to fly 3 RTs to Seattle -- easy to do in one day. Never having been to Alaska, however, it occurred to me to check whether Alaska has a convenient 3-segment outbound route from PDX. The only thing that's come to mind so far is PDX-SEA-Juneau (or some intermediate point)-ANC, returning the next day. Ideas?

  • SJC-BOI-SEA-PDX round trip for $186, achievable over a weekend. I got this better fare by calling phone reservations. Hard to book at all via Internet (say itn.net), and then the fare looks like at least $206.

SJC-BOI-PDX-SEA round trip comes in at $212 via phone res for the same weekend.

If your father will do an overnight, try ANC-JNU-SEA-PDX, leaving ANC on AS 64 at 11:45a, laying over in Juneau for 50 minutes, then continuing on AS 76 to SEA, arriving in SEA at 5:38p, then taking a Horizon flight to Portland for the evening.

Take the next morning's early flight to Seattle (maybe AS 2338 leaving PDX at 6:00a, then leave Seattle at 8:31a on AS 61 to JNU, continuing to ANC on AS 65 leaving JNU at 12:55p, arriving at 2:37p.

Alaskair.com has $59 fares to Pasco and Pendleton this Saturday. You could do a couple of turn-arounds, if not 3 in one day.
Be careful, however, as some of the PDX-PSC flights have the same flight number for both directions.

Even better would be if the web-site books you through SEA thus giving you three to four segments for each round-trip. You also get 2k miles for the Portland flights, just register.

The resturant in Pasco is actually not bad for lunch.

  • I ended up booking that routing, with slightly different flights but all in one day, for a cost of about $220 including tax and fees. (The fare without tax was only $160.)

  • I came up with the following routing, which I'm going to play with on a couple of different dates:

    AS 2193 PDX-SEA lv 6:30a ar 7:27a
    AS 2250 SEA-LWS lv 8:05a ar 9:20a
    AS 2211 LWS-BOI lv 10:05a ar 12:00noon

AS 2194 BOI-LWS lv 1:50p ar 1:45p (time zone change)
    AS 2257 LWS-SEA lv 2:10p ar 3:28p
    AS 2029 SEA-PDX lv 4:00p ar 4:49p

  • Any good ideas on this promo for someone in ANC?

My dad was targeted for the promo and is looking for possibilities.

  • I need four segs out of SFO/OAK Any advice? I am guessing OAK-PDX-SEA-PDX-OAK??? Or two OAK-SNA runs... I fell 4K short of MVP, but MVPG will be nice for another year.

There's an alaska webfare from oakland to seattle this sat for about $160 including all taxes and you can route it oak-pdx-sea-pdx-oak.

  • horizonair, I'm also looking at doing this promo out of PDX and am having a hard time booking the route you suggested. I've tried on the AS website, Orbitz, Expedia, to no avail. Any suggestions?

  • I checked into it, and the flight that goes from boi-lws and the flight from lws-sea is the same plane. So you don't really have to worry about the connection time...you will be checked in all the way thru and as long as you don't go out thru security you should be fine..But if that doesn't work, you could also do flight 2429 BOI-SEA 143pm arrive seattle at 202pm then go SEA-GEG 3pm arrive 355pm and finally GEG-PDX FLIGHT 2357 LEAVING 603pm arrive back into pdx at 710pm...but when I price this it brings the fare up to 378.50 r/t....I tried other possible scenarios..but the one thru lws is still going to bring the cheapest price

  • Thanks, horizonair, for your suggestion to look east for the six segments. I hadn't thought of that; being a Portlander when I think of Alaska Airlines I think of north-south travel, but its network east from Seattle does offer choices I overlooked.

  • Well, it looks like Travelocity will take my res for 12/14. I'm concerned about that 25 min. connection, having flown into LWS before. Any other routing ideas?

    Hint: try using multiple destinations.

  • You could do the following and it is relatively inexpensive..

    /OPERATED BY HORIZON AIR¶
    2 2392Q 12NOV T SEAGEG SS1 800A 859A¶
    /OPERATED BY HORIZON AIR¶
    3 2301Q 12NOV T GEGBOI SS1 955A 1156A¶
    /OPERATED BY HORIZON AIR¶
    4 2194Q 12NOV T BOILWS SS1 150P 145P¶
    /OPERATED BY HORIZON AIR¶
    5 2257Q 12NOV T LWSSEA SS1 210P 328P¶
    /OPERATED BY HORIZON AIR¶
    6 2379Q 12NOV T SEAPDX SS1 430P 514P¶

for a total price of 220.00 round trip.
