Advice needed for a MR-dummy !

  • I've never done a MR before and am tempted now to try:

    1. LHR-AMS-PDX-AMS-LHR
    2. LHR-MSP-PDX-MSP-LHR

My question for # 1 is: can I skip the outbound LHR-AMS part since it requires an overnight layover in AMS or will the rest of my itinerary then be voided ?

    for # 2: can I skip return segment PDX-MSP-LHR ?

    so

  • As a MR rookie I would strongly advise that you not screw around until you have some experience. Just book some runs and enjoy!

  • ...And stop with the taunts about sleeping through MRs. You know that I am one of those unfortunates who cannot sleep in anything other than a fully recumbent, preferably prone, position, no matter how tired I may be. For that reason, I find MRs more taxing than they might otherwise be.Have you tried heavy drinking? Starting a MR short on sleep and with a hangover seems to put me right out.

  • You don't want to skip an outbound one, as they will usually cancel the rest of the ticket. Technically you can skip any of the later segments, but of course you won't get credit for them, and the airline could charge you as if you had bought just the segments you flew.

    Sometimes A-B-C is $500, but A-B is $1000.

  • Sorry, I mean the OP as a mileage run rookie (he said he'd never done a MR before).

You know me, I've slept through dozens of MRs!

Oh, you didn't mean to say, "As a mileage rookie, I would...." What you really meant to say was something like, "As a mileage rookie, you should..."

  • C'mon gre, be truthful here, you're no MR rookie.:DSorry, I mean the OP as a mileage run rookie (he said he'd never done a MR before).

Have you priced out AMS-PDX-AMS-LHR? Might be priced similarly to LHR-AMS-----.. and would avoid the problem you'd certainly get if you skipped the first leg.
